Three Course Records Set at MITcrc
Chamber and Jazz Festivals Rancho Run
Robin Emig (Redwood City) won the 5k (3.1m) and set a course record in
the MITcrc Chamber and Jazz Festivals Rancho Run on Sunday, August 8. Asked
about the race, Emig said, "All in all, the lack of bobcats made it quite
pleasant. The ChiRunning training was very helpful, although we need to learn
Chi-map-reading techniques next time for those of us who got lost several
times...."
Boaz Ben-Zvi (Cupertino) won the overall 10k (6.2m) and also set a course
record. Robin Wenham (Palo Alto) won the half marathon (13.1m) and also
set a course record. Wenham said, "At about 9:30 am I wished I were running the
10k instead of the half marathon. You can finish a flat marathon faster than I
finished this very hilly half marathon." No runners finished the full marathon
(26.2m).
Laura Reeve (Santa Clara), Cathy Orca (Saratoga), and Elyce
Gall (San Jose) were the female 5k division winners. Jeff Provost
(Campbell), Bill Reeve (Santa Clara), and Greg Goodwin (Saratoga)
were the male 5k division winners. Gall said, "I had a lot of fun doing the run.
I'm psyched to continue running there! The hills will be good for me." Goodwin
said, "I was quite satisfied to finish the 5k. A race 5X as far was certainly
not doable for me at Rancho last Sunday."
Scott Feamster (Atherton), race director, said, "Our Chamber and Jazz
Festivals Rancho Run is much tougher than the Nashville country music and San
Diego rock 'n' roll marathons. It's also more classical and more jazzy. And it's
free. It's for people who want the extraordinary."
The Rancho Run was organized by the MITcrc Community Running Club (MITcrc) and
sponsored by Music@Menlo, MetroSport, and the Silicon Valley Capital Club. All
race winners and special contest winners received Music@Menlo CDs and posters.
All runners and hikers received MetroSport 20% discount coupons and Silicon
Valley Capital Club passes.
In addition to Music@Menlo, the MITcrc Chamber and Jazz Festivals Rancho Run
promotes the Stanford Jazz Festival and the San Jose Jazz Festival. The MITcrc
run is the world's largest free 5k, 10k, half marathon, and marathon. MITcrc is
the best rated Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) club on the Bay Area
peninsula.
